Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread

Budget : $200 - $300. That includes anything else I might need to buy, like a different cord, an amp, pads or whatever. My budget is flexible.

Source : Phone and a PC. I don't have a non-integrated audio card or an amp.

Requirements for Isolation : As just a way of narrowing down my options, I'm going with open.

Preferred Type of Headphone : Full sized

Preferred tonal balance : Warm sounding, like the difference between how you hear your own voice and how others hear it. Not bright/overwhelming highs.

Past headphones : Superlux HD668B: Pros: Nice highs for the occasional piano and synthesizer based songs. Cons: Cheap plastic pads. They clamp my head if I don't take my glasses off, which I never do. Mids and lows are low quality. Overwhelming highs.

Preferred Music : A variety of genres, but primarily rock. Three of my most played songs that I feel represent my tastes in music best are This River is Wild, The Boxer, and The Reeling.

I got some good suggestions the other day, with the one I'm leaning toward the most are the HD598s for the balanced sound and comfort value, as well as being a very popular pair of headphones with tons of information to go off of. I got some suggestions for some less popular headphones, but with only a few reviews to go off of, it's an even more of a shot in the dark. They're also the cheapest pair I was suggested (though I'm going to have to spend an additional $50 or something buying better pads and a shorter cable), but I worry that the quality won't be there. I've heard they are pretty bright and the bass isn't very strong. Worst case scenario: they'll sound like the Superlux HD668Bs, and I'll hate them.

I guess I'm either looking for reassurance that I'm not going to waste my money or alternatives that would be better for me.
