DHMIS is legitimately one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen

weirdly, this series doesn’t scare me at all.

To me, it doesn’t feel like it’s some creepy corrupted horror thing trying to “get to you”. From my perspective, it’s like a behind-the-scenes with a bunch of puppets who’re trying to escape from a kids tv show. That’s really what it feels like. and some wacky and horror-y shenanigans ensue, sure, but mostly I feel bad for the little guys. I care about them as characters more than anything in the show.

You’re probably watching it like the aforementioned creepy thing, like a kid’s tv show that was corrupted. something is “off”. that sounds really, really, really scary to me. i don’t want to watch it that way because i normally don’t have the stomach for any kind of horror.

Still, the visual horror can get to some people. Not to me!! i’ve always been super interested in how things are made, and knowing how this is made really makes it bearable. i‘m like “oh, they probably got some pig guts or somethin’ from a butcher to do that”, or “ooh they put paint on the guy” or “they bought some mealworms and poured it on the blue fabric”. i sort of do that for the non-visual horror too: “they put that line in there to make it more scary”, etc. A good comparison for the effect is when someone explains a joke. it’s not funny anymore. same with deconstructing the horror elements- it’s not scary anymore. viewing the series like that feels very safe.

really the only scenes where i felt sick were all in episode six: the part where the “bigger boys” torture the little fleshy creature, the part where lesley says loud stuff, and the part where duck tears out yellow guy’s batteries.

the ones where i felt, like, existential terror were in episode five and six: when they were escpaing and the world was very new and fresh and scary, and the utterly CHILLING last bit when the camera pans away from the main guys and reveals a floor that extends on for eternity, a fourth wall that doesn’t exist.
