Does anyone else find Keras kind of annoying in SSS?

So I think from Keras’s perspective the idea of pragmatism over the living creatures he meets doesn’t really sit well with him. That’s basically how the REST of the world works, summoners create creatures to die in tests or sports, elementals and harvesters get bound to serve other people’s agendas, hell even Mara makes a joke about eating a dragon, and Keras is more like most of those creatures than he is actually human.

So it’s unsurprising to me that he acts the way he does, despite the option to potentially get strong and save the day. That’s the route everyone else is taking, in this book and most others, so I enjoy the change of pace. Understandably it can be frustrating because it’s a little irrational. But for me it’s a likable irrational.
