Dropbox adds device limit for free accounts

Financially they're doing fine, but they've chosen some bad metrics to report to analysts. And now they need to make those metrics look like they're improving over time. The only way to make "Average revenue per paying user" look like its going up is to reduce costs. Getting rid of a bunch of non-paying users is one prong in that effort, cutting development costs by limiting linux filesystems to just unencrypted EXT4 is another. Reporting on that metric will also prevent them from offering more competitive entry level plans. So things may look fine for now, but the seeds of destruction are there, waiting to take root. One quarterly report at a time.
