I owned my company before returning to Big 4.
I never used a blended rate, nor do I structure deals now that way. My open rates are indicated on the RFP response and SOW.
What the client sees is the actual bill rates they will get charged + actual expenses.
So, for instance:
Partner: $380 x 40 total hours for 10 week project = $380 x 4 for each week; billed every month
Senior Associate: $275 x 400 total hours for same 10 week project = $275 x 40 for each week; billed every month
What shows up on my WIP report within the firm is my REAL rate at the firm (the $1100) and then the ERP rate which adjusts the internal firm rate to what the customer will see
When I submit the invoice to client they will ONLY see the rates we agreed to in the SOW and RFP response
How would I bill as an independent again?
my actual rate - you cannot bill at the partner rate; we don't even do that at the Big 4 UNLESS it's a mission critical, overnight turn around deal (and in 25+ years, I've done exactly one of those)
Also, I need to make this clear: unless you ARE a partner currently serving in the M&A space and on a board seat for a public company, you are not worth the $1100 an hour.
That is NOT a condemnation of you, that's just reality. *I* have never been worth $1100 / hr.
Let me repeat that: except for ONE client in 25 years, that $1100 / hour rate is INTERNAL only. What gets billed to the client is significantly less.
