FODMAP free forever?

Not trying to be contradictory, but you are supposed to cycle. You are supposed to re-challenge foods that you previously failed every few months. Your gut microbiome changes over time, so you may be able to tolerate something you previously didn't once you have been able to stabilize your reactions for a while after the first elimination and rechallenge attempt.

See step 3:

Some people may not find any success, and I would imagine if you re-challenged several times and had the same terrible symptoms, you might be less inclined to re-challenge in future. But the guiding principle is to re-challenge so that you can expand your diet to a healthy variety. Many people find that after a period of elimination and healing their gut microbiome, they can reintroduce some previously failed foods. I'm certainly going to hang onto that hope.
