The Force Explained, and Why Kotor 2 is the Greatest Form of Star Wars Entertainment.

(unpopular opinion): I have some legitimate gripes with KOTOR 2

  1. Kreia sucks. She's basically Chris Avellone's avatar whose sole purpose for existence is to complain about how star wars sucks. The game is even structured to force you to listen to Kreia's lectures to find out more about the story without any real chance of rebuttal and that sucks. Even events conveniently transpire to match her philosophy (like the Nar Shaddaa beggar scene - is there no possibility of the beggar not getting robbed? He's been on the streets for some time, he must have some street smarts; in supporting Kreia's point of view the game becomes unrealistic). All this makes it feel like Mr Avellone is mocking your taste in Star Wars and forcing his views down your throat - and what views they are! Straight out of Ayn Rand super individualistic autarchy alt-right Nihilism 101. Make the galaxy great again!

  2. Poor environment design. Nar Shadda doesn't feel like a place I would hate to live in. In fact, it's nicer than the less prosperous areas of Coruscant. Telos and Peragus are a drag to play through and no amount of RCM (amazing mod by the way) can save it. Dantooine's warm orange has turned into vomit green. I know that this game is supposed to be bleak, but the environments really feel too bland.

  3. Revan Sue. Revan never fell, they sacrificed themself! Revan was a genius at Echani combat! Revan is literally the best Jedi ever, he learnt all there was to learn! Revan knows all about the force, echoes, dark places, etc. Kotor 2 made them much too good at too many things. I prefer Kotor 1's simpler fall (flawed Revan)

  4. I actually prefer Alek/Malak to the villains of 2. Cue the downvotes. I already said why I hate Kreia. Nihilus is more of a force of nature (like a mindless beast boss) than an actual character. Sion simply lives to get more pain and power (Please correct me but I can't figure out his motivation to live beyond that 1 sentence). Alek/Malak isn't actually a bad villain. I think Bioware deliberately wanted to portray him as ineffective or weak (especially considering the fight on the leviathan), and that he's intentionally putting up a front of a stereotypical villain (trying to convince others and maybe even himself that he's powerful) because he knows that he'll never beat Revan and always be second best/nothing (Especially at the very end of his life). Yeah, Malak is kind of a tough final boss but that's probably for gameplay balance purposes, and it makes sense as the star forge is a place of dark side power.

  5. Balance, balance, balance. Kotor 1 felt fine. Kotor 2 isn't balanced. At later levels you can afford to spam force powers as much as you want and the game becomes laughably easy. Force crush is much too OP. Some bosses are too easy (twin suns if Atton already has force powers) and some are too hard (Darth floating lightsabres)

  6. It doesn't feel like star wars. The whole purpose of playing a Star Wars game is to immerse yourself. Kotor 2 is far too bleak (edgy and pretentious) to feel like
