Joking aside... it's something that more recently there has been a dramatic increase in research and development towards. Mainly because so many governments and corporate conglomerates are finally beginning serious initiatives towards the goal of space based resource extraction and manufacturing capacity. It's easy to get stuff down a gravity well but extremely costly to send it up, so do-it-all fabrication machines are something that is needed to make it all a reality. At some point there will be a threshold that is crossed where the most complex/advance machines for manufacturing will be able to build 1:1 clones of themselves.
