Ok that one I did get. I was in labor for two days and was NPO except for ice chips. They even scolded me for drinking my water bottle on the initial assessment to see if my water did actually break (my water broke as first sign of labor). I was on IV fluids the whole time but by the end of it I was so so thirsty, feeling like I was going to die of thirst. Those ice chips were not enough. I remember after I finally had my C-section, I got to my room and when I saw “ice chips” on the white board under diet, I started sobbing and begging the nurse to bring me water.

So, that whole long story aside, I understand the logic behind doctors still asking women not to eat or drink during labor. And lying to medical professionals is always a very bad idea. However, the risk is aspiration pneumonia if you happen to have to be put fully under for a C-section, which is a very rare emergency scenario. You’re obviously not intubated during a typical C-section.

Her delivery on this whole message sucks though.
