I think idpol is useless without class analysis because otherwise we get girlboss Kamala Harris foisted on us like it's a win when it's not. I think cancel culture is 90% people weaponizing personal grievances under the guise of social justice. It happened to me. Someone who didn't like me personally because I didn't give her a ride home from a dance festival once, used a joke that I told at an open mic which she heard about second hand to slander me in every place that she could, including calling up my old room mates to try and gather evidence. My old room mate said I was "pro palestinian" she told the Artistic Director of our theatre company that I was anti semitic. In a facebook group for "performers of colour" she was telling people that I was "unsafe" and not to work for me because of it (I produced a variety show) People would tell me in private that they thought what she was doing to me was wrong, but not defend me in public. My room mate at the time had very severe OCD where one of his issues was being afraid of being perceived as a racist. He asked me to move out and I ended up homeless (fucked up housing market) and had to back home to my small town and live with my parents.

I really think that Jesse is trying to have nuanced discussions in a society that despises nuance, and instead of people striving for nuance, they double down on black and white interpretations of an issue being the only acceptable ones. I have participated in actual discussions with trans friends about if they should physically transition or not, and guess what I just listen and tell them I will support them either way. But according to some people I'm a transphobe because I don't think Jesse Signal is literally Hitler. I just think all this "if you follow Jesse Signal on twitter you're murdering trans kids" discourse is just totally divorced from reality. There are all these accusations of him stalking and harassing transwomen but no one has any proof??? Like fine say he's a shitty journalist writing about the wrong things in the wrong way, but people are truly trying to destroy his life and it's really weird.
