I think it depends where you go in the world. In Britain we definitely get enough rain that it’s not as bad as you’d think in terms of water usage and it’s not necessarily as exclusively upper-class as it is in the US although climate change and our absolutely clownish water industry that was privatised under Thatcher is doing its best to see to that. Putting a golf course (or even a lawn really) somewhere in the desert like bloody Arizona is basically waging total war against the environment on the other hand!

Same is true in reverse of course, American grey squirrels almost completely wiped out the native red squirrels after transatlantic trade really got going to modern levels in the 20th century.
