Got a job offer in SF today.. Is it good enough?

Salary is always negotiable - you can try to counter-offer, but it looks like they're offering a lower salary for more stock.

I'm a software engineer in SF and usually stock grants for new hires are in the 0.1-0.2% range, at best. Sounds like they are trying to make up for having less money to throw at you by giving you a better ownership stake - which is a common strategy in the land of startup churn, if they fail (which they can despite all your best effort) that stock is worthless.

To your worry about speed: that's the nature of the game here in SF. Up until this most recent position I interviewed for, the longest turnaround I've seen between initial contact and offer in the last 5 years has been 48 hours. It's insanity.

I've been exactly where you are OP, except moving from within California. I dropped out my junior year to work for a startup in SF that paid 90k. Got my first 6-figure job 9 months later when the startup failed. Have never looked back and have never found the lack of degree to be a barrier, except for scientific software - they like PhDs.

If you are considering taking it, ask them if they can provide any sort of help with relocation - most companies in the bay area will do anything to get you there if they want you and you want them: from paying for moving or airfare, to helping you find an apartment or short-term housing. My current workplace just cut me a check as a "signing bonus" to help me move closer.

Hard choice man - one thing to consider is in the next few years there will be more and more people in the industry with CS degrees, so it may impact you worse not having the degree as time goes on - I think the only reason it hasn't hurt me is I got in at the beginning of the boom.
