i hate ppl calling me feminine things like miss or young lady or this one old guy who said “you’re a girl you know which flowers look best” but goddamn i love being called ma’am by ppl older than me and idk why

no that definitely makes sense. like i think i feel “less than” simply for being a cashier so it feels really nice to get respect, even more so than things like thank you. and same here. some of my coworkers use sir/ma’am religiously and, worrying about misgendering completely aside, I just dont see the point. if a person comes up i say “hi how’re you doing/how’s it going” and “have a good rest of your day.” if it’s a group, “hi how’re yall doing” and “have a good rest of your day guys (gender neutral in the midwest).” i only ever use sir/ma’am if someone is walking away and i need to get their attention to give a receipt or smth. i just think it’s unnecessary.

i cant help but be genuine so im far less formal than a lot of my coworkers but i think customers are okay w it or like me. like the person who trained me seems so fake it’s painful but ig boomers dont pick up on it.
