Help! I'm over spending by $2k/month!

non-gmo

This is the first place to cut your budget. There's no scientifically supported reason for you to avoid GMOs:

2000+ studies finding GMOs to be safe without a credible study otherwise. Every major scientific organization (275+ of them) supports the safety of GMOs without a credible organization otherwise. Polling of scientists reveals huge support for the safety of GMOs.

Moreover, GMOs are shown to:

-Increase yield

-Increase farmer profits (especially in developing countries)

-Increase shelf lives (reducing food waste)

-Increase nutrient levels in plants

-Increase tolerance to extreme climate/weather

-Increase resistance to pathogens

-Reduce pesticide use

-Reduce fertilizer use

-Reduce irrigation

-Reduce fuel/oil use

-Reduce tilling

-Reduce runoff

-Reduce agricultural land demand

-Reduce CO2 emissions

Currently, you're paying more to harm the environment against one the the most substantial scientific consensuses.

only buy organic

Organic doesn't mean "No chemicals for me please!"

Ironically, certified organic crops often use pesticides that are more toxic than those used in conventional agriculture.

Glyphosate is about 186 times less toxic than copper sulfate--about the most commonly used certified organic pesticide--and is also sprayed at about 1/6 of the rate of copper sulfate. Copper sulfate is shown to be more hazardous to bees, and is far less studied than glyphosate which supported by the EPA and FDA as well as 800+ studies. Glyphosate acts on the Shikimate pathway, which isn't even present in humans.

Trusting scientists over conspiracy theories and bloggers would be a good first step to save you money.
