How did everyone like episode 3 of season 3?!

The scene in the synagogue was incredible. It’s the perfect example that “Jesus offends”. He is the truth, and the truth cuts deep and offends those who live a lie.

Jesus told them that their sacrifices and ceremonies won’t save them. They thought that those things brought them salvation. Jesus himself sinned all of this up:

“Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”” ‭‭John‬ ‭5‬:‭45‬-‭47‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

And also, this sums everything up:

“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭5‬:‭39‬-‭40‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

They’ve placed their hope all in the law of Moses, in thinking that it granted them righteousness. But they looked right past the person who the scriptures pointed to, God’s chosen servant. The messiah Jesus.

So they were angry in the synagogue scene because that story pointed at the fact that gentiles could see what the children of Israel could not. How could they? They don’t have the law of Moses!
