Being a librarian involves issuing and discharging books. Recommending books is less common. You will need to shelve books and pick up books that are reserved or withdrawn. Then if your library is connected with others there will be some processing like putting books in transit to home locations/reservations.

Generally, a lot of your day will involve standing, interacting with customers, shelving- crouching/kneeling/bending/lifting, finding books and processing requests/exchanges.

If you work in a small one-person library it can be more easy-going. You can spend more time sitting and there is less to shelve/process. But in exchange, you will have more admin.
