How hard is it to cancel classes?

Please realize that SFU is a business, not just a school.

  • Students may not get their tuition back, but you know what? You decided to go to a school on a mountain. Professors/lecturers do their best to combine lectures to catch up. Alternatively, you could read the assigned readings.
  • Which staff do you speak of? APSA, CUPE, and Poly Party are being paid. CUPE gets snow pay, so the university is paying them , without work being done. Even if you're a temp worker, you are given snow pay.
  • Less electricity you say? The campus is still fully operational, but classes were cancelled classes. No one was forced off the mountain. Students alternatively could've stayed at school to study in the labs/study spaces.
  • You've got me there.

The campus does not save money, they have to pay Facilities (the people who clear the sidewalks, parking lots, roads) double time. They are on campus longer than you can imagine to keep things clear for staff/faculty/students.
