How much does having legacy affect the chance of getting in?

Yes. I know 10+ people from Mendoza who were legacies and are dumb as a box of rock but they have parents willing to pay the 70K+ a year. One guy literally got a 1700 (out of 2400) on the SATs but his parents are worth 100M+ and are both ND alumni.

I think people misunderstand legacy because it is essentially "affirmative action" for the type of people the college wants to recruit. If you had parents who were educated enough to attend ND, they are probably upper middle class (or richer) by now. They know you are the demographic of student they want.

Of course this might not apply to you from the information you've given. You could be an excellent person who has killer ECs and is focused on more important things than academics (totally understandable).

There's a legacy scholarship but it is honestly insignificant compared to the academic/achievement scholarships.
