I know I shouldn't read the comments, yet I do. . .

George was born with low blood sugar, which I expected since I myself was born with such low blood sugar that I had to go to NICU for a few days with an IV of dextrose to bring it up. Even with the IV, it took a few days to bring it up. I was making quite a bit of colostrum but they refused to bring me a pump but tried hand expressing into a plastic spoon. He'd fall asleep at the breast despite all my and my husband's attempts to keep him awake. Then a nurse practitioner came in and treated us like we were opposing formula, condescendingly telling us to think of it like medicine, otherwise, he'd be going to the NICU for an IV (and the way she said that made it sound as if I had already turned down formula and he was going downhill quickly). I guess she sees so many ardently against formula supplementation, she assumed because I was going to breastfeed I would be against it. Then as my lunch is coming in, which had french fries and ice cream, the lactation consultant comes in trying to tape some piece of crap SNS thing to my nipple that I never agreed to. I'm hungry, my fries are getting cold and my ice cream is melting and there's this idiot hovering over me trying to tape a tube to my boob with a baby who doesn't like it. He had been latching fine but he did not like that tube. There's formula pouring all down his face making him and me upset. She didn't know when to give up either. She was in there for at least 45 minutes when I finally was about to explode and told her this wasn't working out. So then they had a bright idea for us to feed him with a syringe. This didn't pan out either. He'd fall asleep and never knew to swallow because he wasn't participating in the feeding. FINALLY, the night shift nurse was sane and said we were getting his sugar up and she was getting us some disposable nipples to use if we wanted. As soon as he was allowed to eat the formula with a nipple, his sugar went up and all was solved. But they let him have low blood sugar for 2 days all to avoid firstly formula and then nipples.
