What profession was once highly respected, but is now a complete joke?

I was that student. I did leave, for many reasons unfortunately. But beyond what you've said- art is a difficult process. It takes real time, energy and a lot of patience. You'll learn with each piece, slowing building skill to reach your "peak." You'll dedicate everything to that one piece while it's in the works. Then trying to sell original artwork is a joke. No one will show interest because it's "too expensive" but if the word free was anywhere near it, "it's the most beautiful painting ever!!" I get it, times are tough, that's why we create, to survive ourselves BUT also we must not sell ourselves short.

But anyways, people will certainly criticize art majors. But will then go on to retweet those generic aesthetic twitter posts, drool over clothing, video games, films and cartoons. Architecture to landscaping, color schemes to decor, and even that new cute phone case. I'm definitely a traditional artist, but I recognize its various forms and how it influences nearly everything. Art school is definitely not required and not for everyone. It's expensive and not a guaranteed way to success, but if it wouldn't hurt you financially to try (lucky) then maybe go for it.

Sorry for improper formatting I'm on mobilize. *Also, it's never been easier to be a self taught artist than it is now. So much info on the internet, for free!
