If Congress declared war tomorrow, I think people would opt out

While you might be right, thanks to Taiwan’s industries, defending it doesn’t seem optional.

People made a lot of good points in the comments on why it will be a challenge, but china has its own issues.

  • extreme dependency on maritime routes both to import energy and to export goods
  • US and allies are key for their economy
  • the economy that clearly having extremely huge issues right now
  • they haven’t have a low growth or recession since the communists are on top, people already revolting against housing
  • their western regions run concentration camps for millions to beat them into compliance as that’s not only their connection to energy but also provides most of their own, a costly war can easily destabilize that
  • we have both the UK and Australia as partners not to mention the island itself and Japanese dislike of china in general.

China also isn’t without problems and it won’t be smooth sailing for them either.
