Incoming freshman anxiety

Hey! I just finished my first year at the University of Kentucky as a CompE major with a 4.0 GPA. I don’t have as much experience as many in this subreddit, but hopefully I can provide some useful advice all the same.

First, I graduated high school with a relatively low unweighted GPA (3.1 GPA and 25 ACT). Doing well in high school is an indication that you will do well in college but by no means a guarantee. Continue to work hard! College will have more distractions, and I have seen some of my peers get caught up in drinking or something else. Stay focused on your academics, personal growth, and career development.

Speaking from what I’ve seen, freshman year is either really easy or harder than it needs to be. If you’re focused, you’ll exceed your expectations!

It’s okay and understandable to be anxious - I was too - but all it takes is a little focus and determination. And you can still have fun! Make friends, get involved, and know that when you do worse than expected (because it happens), that it isn’t a reflection of your value or your intellect. Nothing would be fun if there wasn’t room to grow or a challenge to overcome. Bounce back!
