Am I screwed or is there hope?

You’re never screwed, but if you dwell on that you’ll end up screwing yourself. You know what you want to do, whether you think it’s doable or not. Get up and go get some connections, go try some shit and fail miserably (just not too miserably). You gotta put yourself out there and take some shots. I love this sub, and the feeling we’re all in this shit together. Ultimately you gotta go out and just start trying though. People in here can give you all the advice they want, but you’ve gotta push yourself. Your studying to be an engineer after all, finding a way to solve problems and get shit done is what we do. Good luck to you. Definately not trying to come off harsh, but it helps me when I’m stuck in that mindset. Set big goals and just chip away one day at a time. After all, the Aliens didn’t build the pyramids in a day.
