Iran's Rouhani calls for release of innocent, unarmed protesters, also says, "If America lifts the sanctions, we are ready to talk and negotiate, even at the level of heads of the 5+1 countries.”

They won't, but it's the correct move to favor diplomacy always. The rest of the world is also watching, sick and tired of the US, and wary of the US's decline. So Iran signalling that diplomacy is the preferred option is a no-brainer.

However it is also the case that Iran will be under heavy sanctions for the next decade. It is very unlikely that China, Russia or Europe will be able/willing to side with Iran in the near future. So sound economic fundamentals, better redistribution of wealth, investment into health (good food, exercise, pollution-free environments, reduced stress and better access to health care) and infrastructure within Iran will be important, along with national security.

As the US declines under its massive income inequality and health issues, Iran will come out stronger in the end. But if a single thing could stop us, it would be divisive talk among Iranians. Do not call each other traitors without very good reason.
