Being a woman doesn't give you a free pass from mysogyny fyi. I'm not sure if it was about making her white. I certainly preferred her character design from before she looked different from most of his female characters who were all just Nami with a different color wig if we're keeping it real lol. I think the point people are trying to make with her design in the manga is when he went to change all of their looks he may have just decided to go with his original design not intentionally trying to lighten her skin otherwise why wouldn't he keep her current look with lighter skin? That would be more white washing to me, here she has an entirely different look.
