I studied at u Canterbury for awhile. My roommate drove and rolled his hilux off the side one of those bridges into a ditch (the 3 in the car somehow walked away) - left it there for a few days, bought an old 8 cylinder Holden and somehow towed it out and through Arthur's pass all the way back to our Sumner house. Then he went to live with his new girlfriend a few weeks later, we thought they were just getting serious but then cops came asking for him at our place and he was never there - a few weeks after that decided to go on a north island trip (before the term ended). I randomly saw him on the coromandel peninsula about 3 weeks after that with his girl, but looking ragged and living out of a small Mitsubishi van (not that weird for nz) - he freaked out and asked if anyone else had come by looking for him, and I said yea, what's that about? He said let's just hope I get out of the country. This was 2004. Fast forward to 2012 and I'm back in chch and run into an old friend from before and she's a solicitor now (was studying in 2004 for that position) - she told me how my roommate wasn't allowed back in the county because apparently he evaded authorities (obviously) and skipped out on a mountain of fines and that whole towing thing he did constituted another list of violations. All cuz he didn't know what to do with one of those one way bridges. But he was kind of nuts to be honest. He almost took that hilux off a cliff at Godley head while I was in the back, and he was totally sober, just Alaskan, which I guess is enough. I decided I wouldn't drive with him again after that near death experience for both myself and all the sheep on the hillside he was driving on. I totally know why you call Americans seppos. I'm sorry about my roommate.
