Konami need to learn how to do good promotions

The system of team spirit is not too dissimilar to UT's chemistry. It encourages players to pay attention to the types of players that they buy, and to the managers that they hire. It needs work but its a solid concept and one that should stay in PES.

My only issue with it is the amount of effect it has on gameplay In Master League. The difference between 70 and 80 TS is absolutely massive, and whilst its not too important in MyClub (a couple vs COM games can bridge that gap) but in Master League, you live and die by your team spirit.

As for giving out F2P versions of the game, consider the following:

  • FIFA's biggest mode is UT. It's what makes them the big bucks and has fans coming back year after year. So when the occasional bad game comes out and some players decide they've had enough, they turn to PES and the first thing they look for is the equivalent (MyClub). They're not really bothered about Master League or Become a Legend (Career mode) because they haven't been playing either in FIFA much.
  • Over the past few years, Konami have noticed this and added microtransactions of their own, and dedicated more development time towards making MyClub bigger, to try and entice those FIFA fans and take a nibble out of the market.
  • As a consequence, less time is being spent on the other modes in the game, and also on making PES an actual good football game (which is something it's lorded over FIFA for many years, and its why many die hard PES fans stuck with it)
  • All of this means that PES is now trying to beat FIFA at its own game, ironic considering the many years that the PES spokespeople have lamented the fact that they simply cannot compete with FIFA's licences.
