Kyle McCarthy: New England is expected to reinforce central midfield options by acquiring Gershon Koffie from Vancouver, per league sources.

Their offer for Jones is believed to have been ~$600k. There's no indication he has had any significantly better offers, or he would likely have taken one by now. We also don't know the terms of Kouassi's contract, but based on his resume I doubt he's making much more than $1-1.5 million.

Even taking high-end estimates of the three players, they likely could pay all three combined for less than the cost of what Jones made last year. Let's say they up their offer to Jones to 1m, guesstimate that Kouassi is making 1.5m, and Koffie is making 300k. That's 2.8m total, just under Jones' total salary from last year.

I wouldn't look at Koffie as insurance against Kouassi- I would look at Kouassi as done for the year, and Koffie as their starting CM as of right now. (I know the early reports said 6 months for Kouassi, but subsequent reports are saying 6-9 months. He's a project for 2017 at this point.)

In that light, I really hope they up their offer and resign Jones. Koffie is an alright player and I appreciate that's he's a great guy off the field, but there's a reason Vancouver was looking to offload him. If the Revs want to make another serious run at the Cup, they have a much better shot with Jones starting than Gershon Koffie.

I know the Krafts are loathe to spend money on the Revs, but Jones is a known quantity to them which I think makes them much more likely to be willing to up their offer for him. If you break the 7-figure mark for Jones, that can be a way for him to preserve his ego despite still being a big pay cut. If they really think they need another CM, I hope they still go in for Jones.
