Would Americans vote to keep a liberalized, expanded Supreme Court if Democrats gave them one?

We're so polarized that there's just no way this would galvanize Americans to consistently vote for Democrats, which is basically what you're asking. The Republicans would rage (and not totally without good reason), while Democrats would understand that it's a cheap move, but argue that the ends justify the means. While it's true that Republicans consistently get away with a lot of nonsense, they have a veneer of deniability and are limited by public perception/support. There is no veneer of deniability here. It is quite clearly a move to get exactly what Democrats want. It goes against the spirit of the constitution.

Once you do that, it all goes out the window. Republicans will basically be able to justify anything. They will see this as a fight for life and liberty, and react accordingly, then Democrats will have to react in turn. We could end up in a political war of attrition that is not limited by precedent, law, or the fundamental principles this country was founded upon. We could greatly accelerate the rot.

I personally understand the appeal. Republicans have gotten away with far too much. They consistently engage in neo-fascist behavior. They're destroying this country bit by bit. In a just world, we wouldn't be faced with this decision. I want to do this, but I don't see it actually improving things.

I am also forced to admit, as pro-choice as I am, that the legal/philosophical justifications of Roe were pretty iffy. It's no surprise it's been so easily dismantled. as much as I'd like to see abortion as a right, I can't really justify a quasi-extra-legal move like this when the legality and philosophy of it are very up in the air.
