Lead painted door hardware (!!!). How can I best deal with this?

Let me start by saying there’s a special place in hell for people who paint hardware (and most woodwork too).

I’ve dealt with most of the lead paint in my house either by encapsulation or replacement (we replaced 5 doors and frames). However there are still doors and frames in the home that have a layer of lead underneath a few coats of newer paint.

Obviously I’m most concerned with the friction points but the hardware has me stumped. Assuming it too is lead, how much paint could really have gotten into the voids to begin with and furthermore how much remains after 30+ years of opening and closing. Additionally I know replacement of the hardware will also disturb any lead paint on the hardware itself, the door and the frame so I’m caught between not doing anything and replacement.

Advice appreciated!
