Best Crime books I've read:

  • I Will Find You Solving Killer Cases from My Life Fighting Crime by Joe Kenda. Autobiographical and self narrated story of a very successful Colorado Springs, CO homicide detective. Very empathy building, and fascinating stories of victims and their perpetrators.

No Stone Unturned The True Story of the World's Premier Forensic Investigators by Steve Jackson. This book is mostly about crime scene investigation, but the role of dogs in tracking scents and people was the most interesting to me. The book covers maybe six important crimes that were fascinating and horrific at the same time. One case involved a man who murdered his wife, with his young kids witnessing her backyard burial. His littlest girl would bring cookies to the backyard for her dead mother. He ended up covering the burial site with concrete, though the whole town seemed to know why. Evidence from ground penetrating radar finally embarassed the police enough to excavate. Her body was partially identified by own kids who remembered the buttons on her robe when exhumed.
