I’m an Architect in the U.K., ask me anything!

I’ve designed things abroad, mainly in France. Holiday villas for British people mainly.

But I’ve mainly stuck to the U.K. as that’s where my qualifications are. When you qualify you join the ARB or RIBA.

Also, we have a different standard of insulation and solar gains than other places, so it would take more research to build something to the standards of that country. Most of my work is getting the planning permission, then the building regs… I can design something for anywhere, but that’s no use if it doesn’t get permission.

I think my favourite style is New England style, the kind where it’s white painted and has a balcony, American farmhouse. Followed by British Georgian, which is the kind that looks like a monopoly house with symmetrical windows, the classical look.

How about you, what style would you go for if you built your own house?
