Some explanation:

Ok, this was a little more difficult than my last map of presidents’ birth counties. People are born only in one place, but can “reside” in multiple places. I tried to surmise where presidents spent the most time when away from the White House or what they would have considered “home.” Hoover, for example, never really had a “home,” and split time between Palo Alto, CA and DC before running for president. A few moved while in the White House, which further complicated this map.

Reagan was the most difficult. He sold his LA home after being elected president and visited his Santa Barbara ranch frequently as president. But I don’t think he ever considered the ranch as his residence. And in 1986, a home in LA was placed in a trust for him. So I just put him down as residing in LA.
