A message regarding a current /r/fatpeoplehate brigade

Admins control the site and if they censor people why would anyone want to stay?

If anything, getting rid of subs like fatpeoplehate would only increase their popularity. I've talked to many people who came across one of those kind of subs and never came back to any part of Reddit because of it.

In real life, any kind of censorship can become a slippery slope so I understand why we don't have laws like, "You can say whatever you want, just as long as it's not offensive." On websites, this is much more practical which is why nearly every website doesn't allow you to say certain things. If you go on a certain sports team blog and call all their players 'f**gots', your comment probably isn't going to be around long and you probably won't get to post another comment. This is technically censorship but it bothers nobody because that comment clearly has no value. It's not "edgy" or "controversial", it's just 100% offensive.

So while I don't think you can ban/censor every single thing that's offensive to anyone-- like racist jokes-- but when something is clearly offensive and is just posted for the purpose of being offensive, I see no issue with removing that comment or content. Reddit is going to do what they want but I don't agree with allowing offensive content on the basis of principle or whatever. As I said, almost all kinds of speech is allowed in this country because it's nearly impossible to stop all offensive speech and you don't want to create a slippery slope when it involves punitive measures. On websites, things people say are documented. It's right there for everyone to see. This isn't someone going to the police and saying, "Hey, that guy called me a n***er!" and asking for him to be arrested.
