I've never had to separately bleed the master. The reservoir sits on top of it.

But I do agree that you need to fix the leak, first. It's almost certainly the slave cylinder, as it is a very common failure on first gen Miatas.

Jack the front of the car up and put it on stands. Remove the right front wheel. The slave cylinder will be clearly visible right there. Pinch the rubber boot. If any fluid comes out, the slave is indeed leaking. If the system was completely drained, you may need to bleed it first before the leak will be obvious.

To bleed the system, first make sure the reservoir is full. It takes standard DOT4 brake fluid. Remove the rubber cap from the bleed screw on the top front of the slave cylinder. Loosen the screw -- it should take an 8 mm wrench, IIRC. Have a helper fully depress the clutch pedal. With the clutch pedal fully depressed, tighten the bleed screw. Then release the clutch pedal. Repeat this cycle (loosen bleed screw, depress pedal, tighten screw, release pedal), making sure to top off the reservoir as necessary, until you are no longer getting air or bubbles out of the bleed screw when the pedal is depressed.

The pedal should now be firm, and depressing it should cause the rod in the slave cylinder to extend. Pop the rubber boot off the cylinder if necessary, and watch the slave operate while a helper works the clutch. Any leakage at all around the rod means the slave needs to be replaced.

Replacement of the slave is easy. Use a 10 mm flare wrench to remove the clutch hydraulic line from the cylinder. The cylinder is held onto the housing by two 12 mm bolts. The upper bolt is accessible through the right front wheel opening using a socket wrench with a long extension. The lower bolt is accessible from under the car.

Replacement slave cylinders are cheap. When installing, it's usually a good idea to thread the hydraulic line into the cylinder first, and then bolt the new cylinder to the housing. Then bleed as described above.
