The new normal? A fourth car tried it too but got stuck in the left lane when the light turned green.

My goodness how dramatic you all are is astounding. What shocks me is that your adherence to road-going propriety extends insofar as being in complete disregard of practicality. If a car is occupying the rightmost lane at a particularly long light (I live nearby to this intersection and it is notorious for taking ages), and the drivers check oncoming traffic as they otherwise would, I see no reason to condemn them for safely overtaking you to make their turn and perhaps make it to where they're going slightly quicker. I recently drove in the Dominican, where road laws admittedly take a backseat to immediacy and entitlement, and noticed how overtaking is a generally accepted practice. People have priorities and engagements that are understandably more important than needlessly waiting in queue to appease you and abide by road regulations. We need to come back down to Earth and stop blindly following abstract dictates simply because we are told to.
