Why has no US manufacturer stepped up to the plate as we have a shortage in PPE? All of these hospitals claim to have shortage of PPE and it just seems like not much has been done other than ration, why?

I can tell you don't work in manufacturing!

No worries though, not throwing shade. Thing is, it takes time and money to gear up to make something. If I wanted to make masks ASAP, I'd have to find a source for the materials, buy the machinery, wait for it to be delivered and installed, hire workers, train them...etc etc. It takes time, exponentially more so if whatever it is you're making requires machinery which itself has a lead time.

Bottom line is, nothing in manufacturing moves quickly. And at least some of the PPE required, such as N95 masks, requires raw materials that are, if not hard to source, not exactly falling off trees either. But some things, such as certain ventilator replacement parts, can be made fairly quickly and we have seen a groundswell of effort there. You can read more in the various manufacturing trade magazines, if you're so inclined.
