Non-scary chapter books to read to a 3 year old at bedtime

The risk here is overshooting. It's good to engage kids with reading, but she's still very young. She's got years to go, so keep it building slowly. Try to aim for maybe 1 or 2 new words each page and focus on fundamentals like colors, numbers, letters and everyday words. Also, ask questions about the story. That promotes active listening, which is a base for active reading later.

I'm dutch, so it's difficult for me to recommend suitable books because of language. I can throw some good translated books in there though, as well as others. You could consider:

"Tow Truck Pluck" Books from Eric Carle "The Gruffalo" "The rainbow fish" "Jip and Janneke"

You could also go to the local library and pick out books together. There's loads of good literature for children out there.
