The number of Americans enlisted in the military is tiny - less than 1%. Don't project your unwillingness to consider normal careers on the rest of your country, the rest of us have managed to build productive lives just fine without risking our lives.

I feel bad for you now, whatever life events caused you to think that enlisting was a viable and desirable life/career strategy sure seem to have done a number on your critical thinking.
