That championship run was a f'ing Shakespearean drama.

You had the big three in party city Miami, highly popular all stars predicted to be one of the greatest teams ever and full of pride. They faced early struggles but grew to be the team that everyone feared. The Mavericks headed by Dirk the unconventional all star both on and off the court, highly capable but ten years in the league with the label of being soft and a choker. Surrounded by other accomplished veterans whom on their own were so close to the mountain top but never got there.

The playoffs has them first match with the Blazers, over the years the perennial playoff Mavericks had so much trouble with heat check clutch characters like Brandon Roy. The Mavs were doubted, when the Blazers has a comeback win, the critics chimed in again about the same old Mavericks choking again during the playoffs. But they responded and advanced to the next round.

Facing defending champions the Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavericks turned up the heat and rained down a bunch of there's and dismantling the triangle. Including a huge game by veteran Peja Stojakovic, so close to ending good career but giving everything he had with every three he launched, he couldn't walk away without dealing with unfinished business with the Lakers and getting his revenge.

Then came the Okc Thunder led by LeBron's match Kevin Durant, very talented team but not enough experience, which the Mavericks fully took advantage of. With every step back one legged high arch jumper, it was like shedding old skin and Dirk revealed to the world what he had inside. With every game it was as if the Mavericks only gelled closer as a team and they made it once again to the finals.

So much history, so much contrast between the Mavs and the Heat. The last time they met, it ended in a dramatic and controversial fashion. But everything came together at just the right time for the Mavericks, a true team that didn't care about sticking with starting lineups, that guys like Brian Cardinal made a difference. With Dirk definitively proving the doubters wrong with huge clutch plays and comebacks. And the rest, as they say, is history.
