Officical Dorian Megathread Part 2

Message to Kiawah Property Owners from Mayor Weaver

I want to share some initial observations from this storm, after reviewing the conditions of the island.

It was a very windy but not especially wet storm. That is good news because I do not see the signs or impact of storm surge, and the ponds and drainage appear to have handled the significant rainfall well.

The bad news - the island is difficult to access or drive around due to the amount of debris, mostly from trees. The amount of road debris is similar to Matthew, but with many more large trees in roads. It will take at least all day tomorrow for the town, KICA, and resort to clear the major roads. If it is going to take longer than one day, we will let you know as early as possible tomorrow. We will get you out of the hotels and back on the island as soon as possible.

Power is still out island wide. We are trying to get a handle on when it can be restored, but conditions are still not good on the island, and Berkeley Electric Cooperative cannot begin assessing the situation before tomorrow.

Our recovery team will start making a street by street and house by house assessment of the island starting first thing tomorrow morning. It is always possible they will find something that I missed. But overall, I think the aftermath of this storm looks positive.
