Western liberals think that everything that is wrong with the Arab world is the fault of the west and the west interfering in the region, not because of the islamic religion or the sectarian conflicts that pre-date the west in this region by centuries if not millennia. Israel is considered a western, "colonial" outpost in a non western region therefore they support the palestinians whom they consider "oppressed" by a country of "white" people (even though there are more Mizrahim and Sephardim in Israel than Ashkenazim, Ashkenazim are Jews anyway who were never considered "white" in history anyway). They don't understand how this region really works.
