Protect Native Culture License Plate Initiative | California Native American Heritage Commission

In Oklahoma, native tribes are recognized as sovereign nations able to issue their own license plates, which are then recognized as valid. There are about 32 nations within the borders of Oklahoma who issue their own plates which are recognized.

A few states look at things things this way. For example Washington recognizes plates issued by 8 different indian nations.

This seems to be a "special interest" plate, like hunters, conservationists, etc, where plate revenue is shared with some organization as a fundraising effort, as opposed to a plate actually issued by an entity, and recognized. South Dakota has a similar program, they issue plates with the names of tribes, but the plates mean nothing and can be acquired by anyone in the state regardless of affiliation. So they mean nothing as far as sovereignty goes.

When will California recognize plates issued by native nations on whose land they are illegally squatting? And for that matter, when will they recognize Drivers Licenses and Passports issued by said nations?
