If the school has a reward system in place, I tend to be a bit generous in rewarding students: my favorite school has one, makes it way easier! (I’ve also never met a middle schooler, even an eighth grader, who turns down dino stamps)
Teachers who give me free reign to move their seating chart a little if it’s not working for me are also the best: i had one who was like PLEASE move them if they’re annoying. If that’s the case, I’ll just make a little note and separate out the worst offenders in being a pain. Usually the threat of moving them gets mine to stop and think
I also make sure to review my expectations before I even start roll, that way there’s no confusion: if you’re talking while working, low volume. If I can hear any music, we’re going to have issues.
