'The marine equivalent of fracking': Europe to legalise controversial pulse fishing

Despite the downvotes of others, I don't disagree.

Trawling is terrible for ocean bottom ecosystems, and something that promises to reduce the damage somewhat is probably a good thing. Better, of course, would be to find alternatives that only require minimal disturbance of ecosystems. Aquaculture with GMO oilseed. Plant-based diets.

I've read from several geologists that the issue with fracking isn't the hydraulic fracturing per se, which is rather limited in extent, but disposal of the waste water. Ie, its a solvable regulatory problem for as long as natural gas is a required bridge fuel to a low carbon future. By advocating for industry-wide regulations on wastewater handling, as well as wellhead methane leak monitoring, we might have more effect than arguing for bans. Like or not, we only can run so many windmills now because there are combined cycle gas turbines backing them up.
