Really close ending to a match at AZ's Melee Arcadian last night

Just wanted to point out some things that happened:

  1. Right before this gif, Duffy hit me with a second-hit nair that I didn't DI very well. Definitely thought I was dead for sure.

  2. There was no way in hell I was going near the stage again when one of my main recovery methods in this matchup is "get hit by something weak and try to recover higher." I didn't have the percent to sacrifice, and a lot of things would have killed me.

  3. With Peach, double jump + toad + float + up-b is 10 seconds easy. I use my double jump at about 10.5 seconds remaining, so I should be able to hang in the air for that time and still have some space below me if I need to dip.

  4. I weaved in and out of the blast zone because I didn't want to take too much damage from bubble. Bubble damage is 1%/second.

  5. Duffy's fair would have won him the game if it hit. Duffy was doing an amazing job maintaining presence off stage with advancing full hop > retreating double jump. This pretty much forced me into bubble the entire time.

Here's where things get really freaking amazing.

  1. I know Duffy's going to go for a fair after I use parasol. I'll float down to a range that he can cover horizontally before time runs out. I see at 3 seconds he commits super hard with his full hop. He can't recover back to stage AND still have time to land the winning blow. This is clearly when he's going for his last play.

  2. Duffy's last play starts with double jump > fair. I try to disrupt his spacing by dipping just a little bit. Marth's fair swings high first, so I don't want to be above Duffy when he does double jump > fair. If I dipped more, Duffy probably would have seen it and adjusted his double jump timing accordingly. I finished by just committing to parasol (not dipping anymore) for the rest of the 2 seconds.

  3. Duffy throws out 3 attacks. First, he goes for fair and misses. Second, he uses side-b which I didn't expect. This attack hits. I reacted to this with one last defensive play: air dodge up and toward the stage. Duffy goes for one last attack which would have covered me not air dodging: his up-b.

  4. And the extra 1% from bubble at the last second.

  5. lol there's so much lag between "TIME!" and us reacting on player cam (me: "NOOO!" Duffy: "YESSS!"). There was definitely half a second of us looking for the damage counters and trying to figure out what exactly we were looking at.

These ten seconds were freaking amazing from both sides. Who even thinks of all of this when the announcer is obnoxiously counting down, "Five! Four! Three! Two! One!"

tl;dr: This game is fun.
