I've noticed Bernie's stance on banning "assault weapons" has got many redditors fired up; with many saying they no longer would vote for him. Can we discuss this?

I'm truly confused about the way people react to the discussion of gun control. Not even for gay marriage, abortion, or any other issue discussed amongst Americans have I seen people get so emotional over a topic. Not even for the victims who get slaughtered in this country.

It seems to me that the biggest fear people have is that the government might one day turn against you. This seems preposterous to me. Do you know anyone in the military, any American soldier that would turn against their own people? Can you imagine something so ridiculous? I truly can't imagine the men and women who risk their lives fighting for this country everyday to ever one day turn against us. Or am I not understanding the hypothetical worst case scenario that people are so afraid of?

If someone wants to forfeit their vote for Bernie over his stance on gun control, then they seriously need to get their priorities in check. He's calling for universal background checks. What's the big deal? He's suggesting that states should determine their own gun legislation. Have you heard any other liberal or democrat suggest that? If people seriously disagree with his position that assault weapons should be banned, then. . . well let him and his campaign know. (Personally, it doesn't register to me why anyone wouldn't want to.)

But to completely forfeit your vote for Bernie over this issue? That's foolish in my opinion. You have a rare opportunity to elect someone who is willing to fight against the billionaire class and defend the working class and those who need our protection in society. You have an opportunity to elect someone who is vigorously calling us to address climate change, universal health care, free college, and above all calling out the our corrupt politcal system currently in place due to SCOTUS' Citizens United decision. Focus people! This is a people's campaign! We need to come and work together, acknowledge our differences, and elect a president and a congress who will work for us. It's an open secret that the Military-Industrial complex divides and conquers other nations in the the world, to our shame. Don't let those in the top, who benefit in distracting us from important issues, do the same to us.
