The Reason They Fictionalize Nuclear Disasters Like Chernobyl Is Because They Kill So Few People

I know I’m 2 weeks late but I put it this way, people are more afraid of flying than driving even though statistically it’s safer. You’re more likely to walk away from a car crash than a plane crash.

Nuclear power is the plane to many people, and the others are the car. If disaster is going to strike one of them, one poses a greater fallout, literally and metaphorically which scares people. Nuclear weapons and ignorance of how nuclear power works is a factor. Propaganda is another, but it’s not fair to disregard this fear.

Nuclear power has to be dealt with a great deal of responsibility (see: Chernobyl) and many folks don’t trust superiors to be as responsible as it takes to make them feel safe.
