Residential school survivors call for an end to arson attacks on churches

There is an old african proverb that goes like this:

"A child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth."

I think what we're seeing with protests, church burnings, destroying of public institutions etc is people who feel like they aren't part of the system, they aren't part of these institutions and feel left out of the system as a whole so they're happy to just burn it to the ground.

I find myself in the same boat; I have no connection to any of these institutions or organizations -- if someone decides to burn it to the ground I really wouldn't care. I'm sure this kind of apathy is becoming more and more common.

Look at all the other indicators too; rising cost of living, falling marriage rates, rising unemployment, a housing market that's practically closed off to half the population. If people feel like the system has excluded them then they won't come to its defense when a small group tries to burn it down.
