chiboyla Posts: One significant twist in the alleged border incident is that supposedly no arrest was made at the time. If Rick/PA challenge the termination, and facts start to come out, does that force the hand of the authorities to charge him? If you don't soon hear the PA and Rick's agent vociferously blast the Kings' termination decision, I think that lends credence to the notion that Rick really, really, really doesn't want the underlying facts to come out. Isn't interesting that his agent Don Meehan has said NOTHING publicly about this or the waiver?

Smyttie Posts: Current speculation is that Richards may be facing an extended revocation of his travel visa; if true, not being able to show up to games south of the border qualifies as a material breach.

vbing Posts: Whoops, maybe MR was carrying Stoll's drugs for him and got caught at the border crossing ...

vbing Posts: Well, if it was Oxy, it's important to note that Derek Boograd died of a OD on Oxy and alcohol, and his family is suing the league. Oxy is considered a PE drug, and last year Zenon Konopka was supended 20 games before his contract expired. If The Kings asked MR to go into rehab and he refused (and possibly refused to admit he had a problem) they could suspend him and they would be totally free of his salary for cap purposes for at least 20 games. I also think that if he refused drug testing, that could trigger his suspension. Not sure what the longer, implications are for a player on such a long contract, but I am not sure what the protocol is here if a player refuses help.

vbing Posts: Not sure if anyone realizes, but Toronto is hosting the PanAm games next month. With a huge number of athletes descending on Ontario, there may be an increased vigilance at the border to check for blood doping. If there was an injection kit involved, that may have triggered the investigation. The sensitivity with the upcoming Games may also be why this whole thing is hush hush, as well as the question as to where Richards stands with the whole contract suspension thing.
